FAQs
How can I book in with my preferred artist?
For anyone interested in booking in with one of our artists, we highly recommend preparing your pepehā, a brief description of the piece you want which includes the preferred size and placement (reference images are welcome but we do not copy and paste any designs). Any further information such as preferred date, budget and kōrero tuku iho is welcome. Those who include all this information will be prioritised.
What does the design process look like?
Each design is bespoke and curated for the kaiwhiwhi. Our artists create each piece free handed and includes any information or pūrākau relevant to the significance of the piece. Nothing is tattooed until both the kaiwhiwhi and kaitā are happy with the final design.
How many people can I invite on the day?
We ask that no more than 1 person comes along with you for your booking. However we are always happy to accomodate with at least 48 hours notice prior to your booking.
Do you do group bookings?
Depending on the size of the group and availability of our artists we can do group bookings, however we do need at least one month notice prior to securing bookings for groups with 3 or more people.
Is there parking on site?
Parking is available out the front of the studio. Best place to park is roadside (right hand side) of the parking lot as you enter from the road.
Do you have disability access?
We are yet to have our disability entrance installed. This means anyone who is differently abled may have trouble accessing our studio as we are up a flight of stairs. Please let us know if this will cause an issue and we can see how we can accomodate you.
How do I prepare to receive my tāmoko?
Preparing for your moko can look different for different people. Some like to start a health regime, meditation, clean eating to prep the body for receiving moko. We say each to their own but we do encourage our kaiwhiwhi to consider the significance of receiving these designs, not just for themselves, but for their whānau, iwi and hapū.
Do you post mahi toi outside of Aotearoa?
We are yet to have the resources and ability to ship anything internationally. All mahi toi and taonga can currently be purchased in-store.
Wait… So what happened to The Native Studios and Mau Te Rongo?
Both The Native Studios and Mau Te Rongo exist under the korowai of Ngā Manu a Toi. The beautiful thing about forming a collective is that every artist or pakihi still maintains agency over their own profiles, relationships and personas. We just provide the space for creatives to thrive.
